Assistant: Planar Distribution.
Planar Distribution distributes 3D layers in a straight line along the X, Y, or Z-axis, then distributes them along a two-dimensional
plane. You select the plane, the layer orientation and
the method for distribution. The Assistant does everything else.
How it works.
Planar Distribution functions much like the Linear Distribution Assistant, distributing layers along one of the three axes. The main difference is that Planar has an added capability to distribute layers on a two-dimensional
plane.
This is great for populating a scene with objects, such as a crowd of people.
Once they are distributed, it's very easy to take these elements and animate them around.

The parameter list.
Interesting paramaters include Plane Orientation, which determines the orientation of the plane onto which you are distributing layers. Plane Dimensions sets the size of the plane. The Distance value sets how far apart layers will be distributed and allows for distribution in two dimensions.
