About spill removal.
When Primatte doesn't pull a perfect mask initially, you'll get 'color spill'. This is a reflection of background color onto your subject. Primatte gives you many tools and methods to get rid of bluespill.
You'll find that 'Spill Sponge' and 'Spill Plus/Minus' fix most of your bluespill problems. The others tools solve more specific issues.
For instance, touch up your results by adding or subracting with the 'Spill Minus/Plus' tools. 'Matte Sponge' is great for removing errant transparent pixels.
'Restore Detail' can bring back detail to semi-transparent objects, like smoke and hair. 'Make Transparent' is a one-time fix to make a color region less opaque.

List of spill tools.
Looked at another way, Primatte gives you four groups of tools for removing bluespill. Often, one toolset is best for adding to or finessing the work of other tools.

1- Spill Removal These four tools are: 'Spill Sponge', 'Matte Sponge', 'Make Transparent', and 'Restore Detail'. Each works as a single click correction. You can look at them as shortcut tools, since they are great for simple, fast corrections, like when you’re doing a low resolution pre-visualization. |

2- Plus/Minus In pairs, these six tools are 'Spill Plus/Minus', 'Matte Plus/Minus', and 'Detail Plus/Minus'. Repeatable tools are, in a way, fine adjustment versions of the Spill Removal tools. They’re best used for incremental changes, or for working on small areas of an image. Click repeatedly to interactively determine how they diminish or enhance the bluespill. |

3- Fine Tuning The three Fine-Tuning sliders are accessed via the 'Tune' tool. They are called 'De-Color', 'Clip High', and 'Clip Low'. |
The Tune sliders are best for fine-tuning large areas, or making sweeping yet subtle changes. They are also the most difficult of the spill correction tools to master. You will generally use the Fine-Tuning or the Repeatable tools (but not both) for detail work.

4- Matte Blur Primate has two softening sliders called 'Matte Blur Radius' and 'Matte Blur Threshold'.
Check 'In Only' to Blur JUST the inside of the selection. |
The Matte Blur controls gives your mask a softer edge. Think of them as an after process to get rid of artifacts and aliased edges on an otherwise good mask. If needed, use these tools after all other spill removal and suppression tasks.
