Project isn't saving its settings '
A

This issue has been fixed! Psunami for Mac was having difficulty saving its projects correctly. When you reopened the project, Psunami often reverted to its default settings. The issue occurred in After Effects 6.5 and 6.5.1.
Our free 1.2 update fixes this issue. Please contact us for the update using this Update Form. NOTE: Windows users do NOT have to update. This issue only occurs on the Mac.

Issue when saving presets.
A

We have heard some reports of users having trouble saving presets from Psunami. This happens while using the built-in Preset Manager. This does not happen for everyone.
Our free 1.2 update fixes this issue. Please contact us for the update using this Update Form. NOTE: Windows users do NOT have to update. This issue only occurs on the Mac.

Limit to range of 'x' and 'y' axis.
A

The Macintosh version does not have the full range of motion along the X and Y axis. The slider ranges are limited by a bug. We are also working on fixing this. |

Lowering the render time.
A

Psunami can take up to 15-20 seconds per frame, if you are working in 'Full' resolution and 'Realistic' mode.
There are a number of tricks to lower's Psunami's render time. First of all, in After Effects, just bumping down the resolution to 'Half' instead of working at 'Full' will save you a lot of time.
In Psunami itself, if you go into 'Render> Render Modes', you should do your work while in 'Wireframe' or 'Texture (No Geometry)' mode. When you are ready to render the movie or if you want to check out how the comp is looking, go to 'Realistic' or 'Too Realistic' mode.

Alpha channel in Psunami?
A

That's a simple composite you could easily do in After Effects. You would just create a new Solid layer behind your island and apply Psunami to the solid. This would give you the effect you're looking for. Psunami doesn't recognize alpha channels because After Effects already takes care of that.

Aurora Water and Psunami Water.
Q

Is Aurora Water the new version of Psunami Water? What is the relationship to Psunami Water and Aurora Sky?
A

Aurora Water is a competing product developed entirely by a company called Digital Element. It uses very different technology than Psunami Water.
Psunami creates a truly 3D water surface and environment. It creates a 3D mesh that is then displaced in true 3D. This allows for very complex waves and interaction with the camera. The camera can be attached to Psunami's water surface or go into the wave troughs.
Psunami also allows you to manipulate the 3D mesh by using displacement maps to create wakes, ripples, whirlpools, and other distortions of the water surface. Again, this happens in true 3D.
Aurora's waves are simply bump maps. This is similar to Psunami's 'Texture' render mode where a flat plane is created and a bump map simulating waves is rendered. This mode is not truly 3D and does not produce as photo real images as the 'Realistic' render mode.

Composite an object breaking surface?
A

Yes, you can do this. The trick is to have the Psunami layer that is on top only 'Render To Max Distance' (Render pop-up), and to set 'Max Distance' to something like .02. Make sure the render option is set to 'Render Only Water'.
The Text layer should be below your Psunami layer. Below the Text layer should be a duplicate of the top Psunami layer. Set that to 'Render Both Air and Water'.
To show an object coming out of the water, you need to do a little compositing. It is not a feature set in Psunami currently... though it may be soon.
Our suggestion is to duplicate your Psunami layer once you've animated its wave properties, and sandwich the object layer in between. Then mask out the area of the foreground Psunami layer that is hiding the object.

Composite an object into the waves?
A

Try setting Max Color to around 200, and Min Color to 0. That should
give you a pretty good depth map.

Psunami for another app.
A

You'll want to contact Arete Entertainment at www.areteis.com. They are the technology holders, so if Psunami is made for that application, it'll be listed on their site.

Psunami demo project won't open.
A

This was a known issue on the Mac. The release version of Psunami does not support projects created with the demo. Unfortunately, you will need to recreate your project.
Our free 1.2 update fixes this issue for future projects. Please contact us for the update using this Update Form. NOTE: Windows users do NOT have to update. This issue only occurs on the Mac.

Caustics/Waveworld vs. Psunami.
A

Caustics/Waveworld creates the effect of looking down at the bottom of a small pool. This is completely different than Psunami's rendering of a water surface, particularly a large body of water.

Make very deep ocean waves.
A

You'll want to look at the 'Swells' section. Psunami is all physics based, so like in real life, you need to bump the wind speed up to get huge waves. For instance, play with the 'Swell Height' and 'Swell Length'.
If your camera is set up high, make sure you increase the 'Max Distance'. Otherwise, the waves may not get rendered all the way to the horizon. Although, unlike real life, there's a 'Vertical Scale' parameter, so bump that up as well.
