Anarchy Toolbox

Filter: Anarchist Edge.

Anarchist Edge, as you may expect, produces a glowing edge effect. The filter finds areas of contrasting color, then creates lines along their borders. Anarchist Edge allows more control than most Edge filters. You can adjust the strength of the edge, its softness, and even combine the result with an underlying image.

Incrase your smooth factor.

Smoothing Factor smoothes the underlying source image. This results in less contrast and softer lines. At high values, Smoothing results in very soft lines with contrast. This creates wonderful glow effects, particularly on images with good contrast.

At low values, you get very precise outlines with some noise. This makes for great painterly effects. To generate cool glowy effects, use a high Smoothing Factor combined with something like the Add transfer mode.

Make edges more intense.

The Edge Intensity control sets the brightness of the lines that define each edge. Makes sense, huh? The higher its value, the more the edges will tend to be blown out and white.

The real power of Anarchist Edge shows itself when you combine the resulting original image with Transfer Modes. This produces a wide variety of effects and looks.

As always, transfer modes require experimentation to achieve the effect you want with the image you have. Good fallbacks are always the Add, Lighten and Overlay modes.
