5D Adds Industry Leading Effects from Digital Anarchy to 5D Cyborg and 5D Eclipse
Parntership Will Deliver Innovative Lighting and Text-Based Effects in 2D Composites
IBC 2002, Amsterdam, Stand 7.511 Sept 13, 2002
Post production systems developer 5D today announced that the acclaimed Knoll Lens Flare Pack and Text Anarchy image-processing effects from Digital Anarchy will be integrated into its 5D Cyborg and brand new 5D Eclipse visual effects compositing systems.
The integration of Digital Anarchy products into 5D's visual effects compositing systems will further the creative abilities of broadcast designers and visual effects artists to deliver innovative lighting effects in 2D composites, as well as text-based effects.
"Customers are always looking for new creative opportunities," said Marc Dando, a director of 5D. "Digital Anarchy is a highly regarded provider of image-processing software. Adding its powerful technologies to 5D Cyborg and 5D Eclipse will provide even greater potential for 5D artists to create stunning new effects."
About the products.
The Knoll Lens Flare Pack was created by ILM visual effects supervisor John Knoll, and is accepted as one of the best image-processing tools in the visual effects industry. Originally written to create the Photon Torpedos in Star Trek First Contact, it is a complete lighting effects kit where artists can create and save thousands of custom lighting effects ranging from lens flares to lasers.
Available in 5D Cyborg and 5D Eclipse, the Knoll Pack will provide 5D artists with added power to create lighting effects and lens flares with an unprecedented level of precision and control. The pack contains three filters. The centrepiece is Knoll Lens Flare Pro, for creating lens flares and other lighting effects. The other two filters are Knoll Unmult, used for matte generation, and Knoll Min/Max, used for matte adjustments.
Text Anarchy produces a variety of text-based effects using a particle system. The particle system is specifically designed to handle text, giving 5D artists tremendous flexibility for creating effects such as typed on text, text moving along paths and distorting text.
There are four tools in the set. Text Matrix creates streams of text. TypeOn types text on the screen, like a typewriter of old style computer. Text Grid creates a grid of randomly generated or user-supplied characters whilst Screen Text imitates text scrolling up a computer screen.
Jim Tierney, President of Digital Anarchy, commented, "Cyborg and Eclipse are two exciting new products, and we're looking forward to supporting the artists using them. They incorporate some very cool new technology and we plan on taking advantage of that to the fullest."
